Are Pain Killers Causing Your Headaches?
What should you do when you have a tension or a migraine headache? What should you do when you are experiencing chronic pain? Take a pain pill, right? WRONG! Most people don’t have a second thought when it comes to taking analgesics for their chronic headaches or other assorted aches and pains, but research from the St. Louis University School of Medicine demonstrates that “analgesic use seems to be the primary factor in promoting the development of chronic pain.” It was found that painkillers, instead of helping relieve the chronic pain, can actually be the cause of it.

Yesterday, The New England Journal of Medicine published in its periodical, the results of a survey taken by physicians. The survey included physicians in various specialties such as anesthesiologists, cardiologists, family doctors, surgeons, internists and pediatricians. This group had experience ranging from less than 10 years to over 30 years. Half were reported to be in private practice while the rest worked in hospitals and medical schools.
The survey was in the form of a questionnaire to 3,167 doctors around the nation and more than fifty percent (1,662) replied. The objective of the survey was to “determine the extent of the relationships between doctors and pharmaceutical sales representatives.”

Gardasil Mandated - First Childhood Vaccine for Sexually Transmitted Disease
Man on a mission: Side-stepping the legislature, Governor Rick Perry recently mandated that all Texas schoolgirls entering the sixth grade receive vaccination for the Human Papillomavirus. That mandate is causing quite a stir, but Perry asserts that the mandate is necessary. Requiring young girls to get vaccinated before they come in contact with HPV is responsible health and fiscal policy that has the potential to significantly reduce the cases of cervical cancer and mitigate future medical costs, said Governor Perry.

Disaster Medicine: A History
In 1937, after a natural gas explosion destroyed a high school in New London, Texas, near the end of a school day, nearby oil workers ran from the fields to find a pile of smoldering rubble. Underneath the debris, they could hear the screams of teenagers and teachers.
